Last Saturday, Rick and I played with 5 other acts at the Valatie Community Theater, and old performance space that they are trying to rehab. What a wonderful space! I really think it interesting that old theaters can have such amazing sound with such excellent acoustics! And, as always, Marty McDermott is a wonder host and set the mood for a great show. Rick and Marilyn were in the second set, so we had a great opportunity to listen to the other acts from the house.... what a bunch of talented performers!! There are several easy chairs on stage, with lamps set up to make you think of a living room and each act plays a song and passes the mic to the next. That happens three times, then break, then the second group of people get up to play. It is a fine night of music. I really hope that you get a chance to get out to Valatie next time it comes! It is a very pleasant evening!
Then Sunday, we played the Rosendale Farmers Market. Wonderful vendors, some earth day activities for the kids (and adult-kids), and music, all in a neat Community Center. Such a lovely place to make music.
Thursday we didn't play, but we did check out the scene at the Greenville Drive in Theater during a musicians open house. What the owners are trying to do there is really a unique idea, melding music, art and film into an outdoor place to spend a Saturday evening in the Catskills, complete with excellent views of nature! We hope to be announcing a show there this summer....
Next show for Rick and Marilyn is The Kinderhook Farmers Market! Outside, on the green, they are open 9am to 1pm, but we will be playing music 10-12. Hope to see some of you there!!
And finally.... I think spring is here!! Got to get our summer tires on the cars!!! Have a good one....
Marilyn.
What People Say About Us....
Have you ever listened to someone play and you instantly you go to a certain time and place? Rick and Marilyn do this. They are folk singers that bring you along with them to a place of social change and folk songs. Their songs are timeless in a way that they seem just as relevant today. Their chemistry is amazing. Check them out if you get a chance! Kara Keeler, Photographer
